Blogging in PR
It’s a simple concept: We live in a digital age. With the explosion of internet technology, our lives are affected by it, for better or for worse. I for one am excited.
The creation of YouTube, blogs, and other platforms has revolutionized everything from small businesses to the field of public relations. It has given young pre-professionals a chance to get their ideas and thoughts out there in a field where it is all about who you know and the connections you make.
Blogging has given everyone the chance to engage in this two-way communication that is continually fueling the marketplace of ideas. Earlier controlled by an elite group of “professionals,” the creation of these user-friendly pages has given the common folk the chance to tell large corporations how they feel, ultimately changing the balance of power.
Today, I truly feel that blogging in PR is an invaluable tool. Like Robert Scoble and David Scott believe, it gives elite corporations and small businesses a “face” and the ability to create more personal connections with the public. It not only builds credibility and business, but it gives PR professionals more opportunity to make the connections that successfully get their message out there.
While it is unnerving to think of millions of people being able to read my ideas, it gives me a sense of satisfaction and hope that I to will be able to make those connections to guide me towards my desired career path. It gives me, along with many other students, the chance to see our ideas published and the chance to get one step closer to creating that ever elusive “dream job.”
